50 Cent Discovers Family Roots on VH1 Show

Through four albums and the 2005 biopic “Get Rich or Die Tryin’” Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson has given fans a very candid account of his life story. Now the hip hop mogul wants to share some more in an upcoming VH1 documentary “The Origin of Me.”

In the doc, the Queens MC travels to Edgefield County, South Carolina, to come face to face with the descendants of the men who enslaved his family members before they moved to New York in the 1950s.

According to the network, Edgefield was once one of the most violent counties in the South and 50's journey to the home of his ancestors "will show the world a very different side of 50 Cent."

The show debuts May 23 at 9 P.M. EST on VH1.

Rio soars to the top of weekend box office

Rio,’ an animated movie about a pair of macaws, soared to the top of the weekend box office, pulling in $40 million.

According to website Box Office Mojo, the 20th Century Fox flick had the highest-grossing opening weekend of 2011 so far, beating out ‘Rango,’ with $38.1 million, and ‘Hop,’ which took in $37.5 million to claim.

Meanwhile, ‘Scream 4’ netted $19.3 million, and ‘Hop’ took in an estimated $11.2 million.

‘Rio’ follows the adventures of Blu, a male macaw who can't fly. He was raised in captivity in Minnesota, and eventually returns to Brazil, where he meets a female macaw named Jewel.

“It’s not a great story. This is not Pixar,” Maclean’s Brian Johnson told CityNews.

“It’s OK for the kids, you’ll have fun, but don’t expect Toy Store,” he added.

Chris Brown Hits The Studio With M.I.A.

Chris Brown is branching out. His F.A.M.E. album sees him expanding his repertoire, and he's already straddled the line between R&B and dance with "Beautiful People." Now, he's looking to push things even further. Though, to be honest, we're not exactly sure in what direction.

Brown recently logged studio time with the unlikely combination of M.I.A. and Polow da Don, a collaboration he broke on his Twitter account.

"Was in the studio with the incredible M.I.A. and Polow," he wrote. "Amazing artist[s]! Real talent!"

Polow further confirmed the collabo on his Twitter account, and, from the sound of things, the music they made was revelatory.

"In the lab wit the great Chris Brown and the incredible M.I.A.," Polow wrote (in ALL CAPS). "Thank you dear lord!"

Polow added, "I've waited on this moment my whole career ... I feel this song in my soul!" For her part, M.I.A. remained silent about the music, but did mention that she was "shootin' hoops" with Brown and the producer.

It's not known if the music they collaborated on is meant for a re-release of Brown's F.A.M.E., the follow-up to M.I.A.'s 2010 album MAYA or something else entirely. Emails to reps for both artists were not responded to by press time.

Brown is currently on tour in Australia, where, judging by his Twitter feed, he's taking time to see a whole lot of movies and playing basketball with the Adelaide 36ers of the National Basketball League.

What are you expecting from a Chris Brown/ M.I.A. collabo? Let us know in the comments!

Justin Bieber makes Time’s 100 most influential people

Justin Bieber has been included on Time magazine's annual 100 most influential people list.

The 17-year-old pop star will join celebrities including Mark Wahlberg, Bruno Mars, Chris Colfer, Blake Lively, Sting and Amy Poehler on the list and although Charlie Sheen has not been included, Bieber says the former Two and a Half Men star would be his choice for the number one spot.

The 'Baby' singer explained: "[It] has got to be Charlie Sheen. He's got a million followers in one day on twitter. I've never seen that happen before. Plus, he's got tiger blood, and he's always winning."

Bieber, however, currently has almost nine million twitter followers, while Sheen has just over three-and-a-half million.

The honour comes after a particularly successful year for Bieber, which saw him release his debut movie Justin Bieber: Never Say Never 3D and has his second album Never Say Never: The Remixes top the U.S. Billboard charts.

Those individuals who have made the 100 most influential people list will be honored at the TIME 100 Gala which will be held at Jazz at the Lithe Time Warner Centre in New York on Tuesday.
